Transit Alliance is taking applications for its 2016 Fall Academy, September 28-November 9. Participants selected for the Academy will attend free of charge and be provided scholarships from supporting organizations and/or Transit Alliance. Classes are held from 6pm-9pm every Wednesday at the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce (1445 Market Street, Denver, CO 80202) and include dinner. Applications are due September 9 at 5pm.
Since the Academy began in 2007, it has nearly 800 graduates and anticipates 100 additional graduates each year. A total of sixteen of our Academy graduates are currently in elected office, ranging from RTD Board of Directors to School Boards, City Councils, County Commissions and the State Legislature.
The Transit Alliance Citizens’ Academy is designed to “educate and motivate” community stakeholders by encouraging their involvement to advance transit, active transportation and increased mobility in our communities.
What makes this seven week leadership program nationally unique is that we require all participants to take what they’ve learned and create a six month action plan to advance mobility in their community.
The Academy creates a roadmap for a community’s future by examining transportation, infrastructure, economic development, and preservation of the neighborhoods with the introduction of new investments in transit, biking and walking. The global outcome of the Academy is to create community leaders and advocates that understand the relationship between the infrastructure investments we make today and our communities’ development, prosperity and health of tomorrow.
