Building Leadership Capacity
The history of the Transit Alliance spans almost fourteen years of educating Metro Denver citizens about the need and benefits of a balanced transportation system. Among our greatest accomplishments is the passage of the
FasTracks initiative, Metro Denver’s infrastructure plan that will witness light rail, commuter rail, bus-rapid transit and improved suburb-to-suburb bus connections spreading across our region like a spider web. Throughout our history we have challenged leaders, stakeholders and citizens to understand lessons learned from other cities across the country and around the globe. Our mission has always been one of providing education that goes beyond the ballot box, helping citizens understand the community and health benefits inherent in a multi-modal metro-wide transit
system.
We Educate & Motivate
The Transit Alliance Citizens’ Academy is an emerging leader’s education program to train community leaders,
agencies, governments and/or organizations on how to promote and educate about the quality of life in our
communities on issues related to transit, transportation and community development.
This seven week program engages emerging leaders in a discussion of the complexities of combining transportation and community development to advance metro Denver’s economic and environmental sustainability. The cornerstone of this unique program is the participants’ commitment to take their new knowledge and put it in action. Participants spend a portion of each class designing the personal action plan that they will implement upon completing the
academy. The ultimate goal of the Academy is creation of community leaders and advocates who understand the relationship between the infrastructure investments we make today and the quality, prosperity and health of our
communities tomorrow. Now in its fourth year, the program has delivered impressive results with six graduates being elected to public office: three City Council women and three RTD Directors.
Stay Connected
Transit Alliance provides a regional forum for diverse groups and interests to develop agreement on transportation strategies and solutions.
By harnessing the mobility that only transportation options provide, we can serve all of our citizens, enhance our
economic growth and foster healthy lifestyles. Transit Alliance helps generate strategies, new ideas and policies that promote, protect and enhance the creation of a balanced multi-modal transportation system.
